I though tthis was an exploration about how to be a man in teh world. Slightly dated but still topical.

Maugham is a character in the book. He meets and is privy to many family discussions about Isabelle and her fiance Larry. They break up because Larry following a stint in the war wants some time to explore. We follow the life stories of about four characters as a consequence of their decisions.
